UMUC Social Psychological Theories and Concepts in A Relationship Discussion

*** DIscussion ***

Pick a “significant other” in your life (e.g., spouse, parent, child, lover, best friend) and analyze your relationship. Using information from your classroom readings/videos and any other references you would like to include, identify the social psychological theories and concepts at play in your relationship (these can be positive or negative, but please don’t feel that you need to share anything you’re not comfortable sharing with the class). Really delve deeply into these ideas and dazzle us with your insight! If all of your citations come from one source, you can cite it once rather than citing for each concept, but make sure you include at least one appropriate citation and reference. And make sure you identify the concept so it’s easily identifiable (e.g., number, bold, change text color).

CHECKLIST:

  • Description: Identify the significant other that will be the star of your relationship analysis. Tell us a little about him or her and give a general description of the relationship you share, including how long you have been in a relationship.
  • Analysis: Now analyze your relationship by identifying various social psychological theories and concepts that have contributed to the development and/or maintenance of your relationship. I expect to see at least 5 different topics (marked for easy identification) included in your analysis (significantly deep analyses will be rewarded with extra credit), and don’t forget to include appropriate citations.
  • Opinion: In your opinion, which of the social psychological theories or concepts has contributed the most to your relationship. Why do you think this is the case?
