Rutgers The State University of New Jersey Changing Countours of Work Exam

I will upload the articles when you take tthis, there are 9 articles and several u read before for me. XD

There are no requirements for how much or how little you write in order to answer each question. I’m looking for the right answers—logical and coherent paragraphs and nothing more. So the length is totally up to you and whatever you think it takes to answer each question and get full credit.

A few tips: I am not interested in long quotes or citations. You need only use the assigned readings to answer the questions. I also encourage you to refer to the documentaries and/or other media that we have used thus far. And in terms of structure, you will get more points if your answers are well organized with good introductions and conclusions. Finally, I would encourage you to develop good outlines of your answers before you start writing. Good outlines insure that you don’t forget important information and will help you organize your thoughts into logical, coherent answers.

Q1: You must answer this question— 11.5 Points:

In Changing Contours of Work, the authors state that the economy has undergone significant changes over the past 30 years, but they also point out that “persistent features reflect the perpetuation of the old economy in the new.” What are they talking about? Your answer should include some discussion of the old and new economies along with several examples (3 or more!) that explain how the old economy is embedded in the new economy.

Q2: You must answer Parts 1 and II— 11.5 Points:

Part I: Why are women in significantly fewer positions of leadership and why are they paid less then men?

Part II: African Americans and Latinos are economically behind because of three factors that have to do with resources, opportunity and discrimination. Your job is to explain all three and how and why they add up to persistent and polarizing racial/ethnic inequalities in our country.

Q3: You must answer both parts of this question—11.5 Points

Part 1: As a society, are we becoming more or less divided in terms of class, race, ethnicity and gender? (For example: Do workers have more or less power? Can you live a decent life without a college education? Are women and minorities exposed to more or less discrimination?)

Part 2: Does it matter? In other words does it make a difference if we are more or less divided as long as we still live in a free and democratic society
