Week 11

This has been an amazing 11 weeks I learned a lot about consumer behavior. I never thought about how marketers view consumers and how the whole consumer decision making process. Starting with need recognition, search for information, evaluation of alternatives, choice, post choice evaluation. I thought I was just shopping, never realized I was going though all these steps until taken this course.

One aspect of social media that affects consumer behavior is word of mouth. Word of mouth can affect behavior in a positive or negative affect. In an informal group, such as Facebook if one of the members speak negative about a product, most of everyone in that group will not purchase that item and spread the word to all their followers. Social media is powerful; consumers has a lot of say so when it comes to the success of a product. I imagine in the future businesses are will to have to consult with consumers on what they can and cannot advertise.

This was a very interesting course. I enjoy learning behaviors and reasons for them. This course was helpful in my work. It gave me more perspective on the how/what/why of my clients. I dont work in retail (like most examples in this course) but my clients are still consumers- they make the decision to bring their pets to the hospital for care and services.

Social media- so many great things about it- but it comes with its cons as well. I think we are still learning how powerful it can be (in both positive and negative ways). Social media will be able to influence consumer behavior through marketing and word of mouth. In the past a bad experience could be shared with a hand full of people- now with social media, a bad experience can be shared with hundreds or thousands in seconds.
