I mostly start with a blank document in word, but you can choose from several different templates to start with. For example: If you want to create a resume, you can type resume in the search box in the new windows and it brings up hundreds of templates to help you create resume. While typing documents, I use the zoom feature quite a bit, because my vision isn’t as good like it used to be and I can see the text better.

There is one tool that I use the most in Word which is the editor tool. I like it when Word checks in real time for Grammar, Spelling, and other writing mistakes while I am typing a document. I haven’t use the Thesaurus in Word in a while, but I think that will change since I will be writing papers for college. MS Word has definitely changed over years and has a lot more features now then it did when I was in High School. I remember that you had to do your own grammar check, so I am spoiled now with today’s MS Word.

There are a handful of useful tools that one can use to create a professional document using Microsoft Word. One of these tools is under the insert tab called pages. The pages tool provides suggestions for the design and layout of a title page. This can give a document a personalized and professional touch. The reference tab has several tools designed to ensure one’s document is professional by providing options to site and manage references within a document. Using Insert Citation for example ensures citations are properly formatted and placed in the appropriate location. Another solid tool to use to make a document more professional is the synonyms tool. This tool can be used to quickly and easily find alternate choices to similar words. Using the synonyms tool can help add a greater professional level of detail to a document by replacing common or repetitive words. However, it is tool that must be used carefully as similar words don’t necessarily have the same meaning. I find the pages tool to be the most useful when creating a document because it allows for several creative and professional options when creating a title page. Using the page number, header, and footer tool can be used in conjunction with the pages tool to compliment the style of the title page.

Microsoft Word has various tools that can be used to ensure documents are error free. The most common of these tools is auto correct. Auto correct automatically changes a word that is misspelled if the spelling is close to a known common word. For words that don’t fall into this category, Word will provide a drop-down menu of alternate words that closely match the misspelled word. This tool is like the grammar tool that will automatically suggest where to insert common punctuation like a common, or semi colon. Among the suggestions that Word provides a user, the language choice is a great tool to ensure one’s document can be professional. This tool suggests alternate word choices to prevent unnecessary, or non-concise wording within sentences. The check document option under the Review tab combines all these tools into one easy to use tool. The check document tool I find to be the most useful, as it ensures that there are no misspellings, or grammar errors before submitting a document.

In reading and preparing for this discussion I found a couple points I hadn’t considered before. My personal opinion is that sharing music, movies, or software (that isn’t marketed as free) is not something I do. If it’s only available for sale, subscription, pay-per view/use then I will. One article I read had a few points supporting this. http://articles.marco.org/218 gave the example comparing if someone steals a CD vs. makes an unauthorized copy. If someone steals a CD, they have taken the CD from you, you no longer have it. If someone makes an unauthorized copy of the CD, you still have the original. But you are harmed. You have lost potential profit they would have paid if they made an authorized copy.

The point I had never considered before from the article was that the unauthorized copy may actually increase the value of your CD and authorized copies by increasing the penetration of the song. Just imagine, you’re playing your unauthorized copy in your car with the windows down. How many people are going to hear that while you re stopped in traffic? How many of them will purchase the CD or pay to download an authorized copy? How many people in your social network will you talk to and tell how much you like that CD and they will pay for a copy?

Still not saying I would do it, but it did bring some points in that I hadn’t considered before. As far as prosecuting those that share music and movies without authorization, is it worth anyone’s time to police it? https://www.musicbusinessworldwide.com/why-does-the-riaa-hate-torrent-sites-so-much/ says one analysis by The Institute for Policy Innovation estimates $12.5 billion of economic losses each year. Yes, I think that amount is worth chasing. What would the prosecution be? I would think original cost of the file and a small penalty would work. I really don’t know how it would be enforced.

When wanting to get music on your cell phone or computer or whatever electronic device you use, the first thing that comes to people’s mind would be finding a site to download the songs without having to pay for it. While it may seem easy and innocent enough it is not. While looking into the Ethics of Piracy I found on the site https://theosophical.wordpress.com/2010/12/06/the-ethics-of-musicmovie-copying-downloading/ an example of Piracy, that example is if you borrow a CD from a friend, and you download and burn the contents from the CD onto your computer and another CD for your own personal copy, that is an example of Piracy. It may seem legal or acceptable in some people’s eyes but it is not. It is sometimes hard to track down all the sources that allows you to illegally obtain certain software or music because it is so many. While it is not a physical theft it is still considered theft, which is unmoral. Taking the “easy” way by illegally downloading music not only keeps the artist of said song from gaining profit for something they worked hard for, it also takes away from the proper places that sells the actual music. I also found on the site http://www.angelfire.com/music6/jodiflood/ the complete opposite. The creator of this article feels that only the person distributing the music online for free should get punished, not the people who actually download the music from said distributor. I feel that is a pro as well as a con. The pro to that point of view is that the author feels that the distributor should be punished for making songs that originally are priced, as free to the visitors of that specific site. The con is that if the person distributing and posting it online should be punished, then so should the people who purchase it from said person. I say this because the difference between theft is knowing and not knowing. Knowing that something is supposed to be purchased and choosing not to and not knowing that something should be purchased is the only thing making a difference. For example, if you go on Apple Music and see that the song you want is $10 and deciding to go to a website and download it without paying that is considered theft. Even though it is not a physical thing, the customer did not go to the store, pick up the CD, and walk out with it; It was known that it is supposed to be purchased and the choice to not purchase it, but download it from a third party makes it illegal. There are some sites that make it known that illegal downloading is wrong but still have the option to download it illegally. That is still wrong. Regardless of if there is a statement, or a posting of what is right and wrong, if the visitor can still illegally obtain something from said site, they are condoning it.
