CLASSMATE POST #1

Cloud based storage and management systems like OneDrive offer unique benefits especially those in academics and professional work. OneDrive allows a user to upload, manage, and share documents with a group or team. As these files are located on a cloud-based system, there is no need to use devices like flash drives to transfer data from one device to another. This is especially important when collaborating with coworkers across great distances like other countries where physical storage is not an option.

Anyone with access to the OneDrive account can easily see a document a user has uploaded, edit the document and re-upload for everyone in the group to see. Folders can easily be organized to keep documents separate. By simply clicking on the upload tab on the OneDrive navigation bar, any user can upload a file from their local storage. One other benefit to using an application like OneDrive and cloud-based storage is the wide variety of supported devices. Users can access files and folders without the use of a computer, like a smart phone. OneDrive also supports the ability to create any document in Microsoft Office 365 right from the cloud by selecting the new tab in the navigation bar. This is useful for someone who may not have access to a computer with Microsoft Office 365 installed.

Although OneDrive uses SSL security encryption to keep your files safe, if for example, a hacker was to gain access to the cloud-based servers, any data could be compromised. If one’s credentials was to be compromised it too could lead to potentially sensitive information being accessed. One thing to keep in mind when using a cloud-based system like OneDrive, never upload any sensitive information to an account that multiple users have access to, unless absolutely necessary. Since anyone with access could potentially leak, alter, or use that information for malicious purposes.

I have used several cloud file management systems including Onedrive and I can say that it is definitely a life saver when you need access to a file anywhere you are at. I have been in situations where I need to access information on a document for work, and I just open the document from Onedrive on my phone and get the information. I can also share any of my files to my colleagues by sending them a link for them to access a particular file.

My only concern about using cloud-based file management systems like Onedrive is that you are storing your files on a server that is not yours or managed. You are leaving the responsibility to keep your files safe to the cloud file management company. What I have done to remedy this concern is that I use a Network Attach Storage(NAS) to store all my data and back it up to a cloud storage company.Then I use a cloud file management system, which I use multiple systems like Google, Onedriver etc, to store files that I want easy access to. Those files have been already backed up on my NAS.

CLASSMATE POST # 3

My computer was once a pre-built desktop Dell Inspiron 3847, though I have upgraded almost the entire machine from what it once was. The current output devices are an 8 Gb graphics card connecting Dual LCD monitors and a set of Astro A40’s that also connect to my Playstation at the same time. The input devices are a set of Razor Tiapan mouse and Black Widow keyboards, and a standalone Blue Yeti microphone. I currently have 16 Gb of DDR4 RAM, and while I could add more it would not make a large impact on what the system currently runs.

The processor of this computer is what came originally in the machine, an i7 4790 quad core 3.6 GHz chip, which still hold up well today. The only downside to the chip is that it struggles with processing high encryption games while live streaming. The storage is a 500 GB HDD with a 150 GB SSD. I only have about 10 GB of storage left on the SSD, and over 200 on the HDD. The SSD I use for programs that I always use (discord, spotify, whatever game I’m currently playing) and the HDD I use for video files I created as well as other games that I can port to the SSD when needed.

This computer has a wide variety of ports available, with three HDMI outputs and one input, 6 USB inputs, 2 3.0 USB inputs, 1 ethernet port and 2 DVI slots.

My boss plays League with me, and there’s no doubt that mine is the superior computer between the two. With the faster chip, significantly better graphics card, and faster bootup with the SSD there is no real comparison. Since I use my computer mostly for gaming, a new motherboard and chip would be what I would want to upgrade, as it’s the only “outdated” piece of hardware left on my machine. It would help with the higher encryption rate and allow higher FPS during high bitrate tasks.

My personal laptop is an MSI GE62VR 6RF Apache Pro. With windows 10 Home edition.

It is connected to wireless ink jet printer, external modem, and Xbox controller and some

Bluetooth devices. As in put it has DVD Super Multi, HD type (30fps@720p) web cam,

Backlight Keyboard (Full-Color), and 1x SD (XC/HC) card reader. Output I have audio/ sound

cards, Canon MX410 wireless ink jet printer, 23-inch Samsung monitor and headphone.

My installed RAM is 16 GB, and its maximum capacity is 32 GB RAM expansion according to

the main msi product web site.

I have DDR4 type of memory with 6th Gen. Intel® Core™ i7 processor and 4 cores.

My computer Processor Base Frequency is 2.60GHz, with Max Turbo Frequency 3.50GHz. It

means when demand increased it can boost up to the maximum level of speed to meet the

demand. In term of storage, I have a regular hard disk of 1TB with additional 250 GB SSD drive

(SSD – solid state drive). My storages are almost intact. I have almost 913GB free space on my

hard disk and 237 GB free space of my SSD. The space I used is basically for my operating

system which is 45.9 GB out of 256 GB SSD.

I have multiple ports on my PC. It includes two USB 3.0, one USB 2.0, HDMI, 1 mini display

pot, card reader, Network inputs, headphone and audio out ports.

My friend use MacBook 13” laptop with 8 GB RAM and 128GB SSD storage. It doesn’t have

discrete graphics card like mine. My graphics card is GeForce GTX 1060 with its own 6GB

memory. I think my laptop is well equipped to handle any intensive graphics tasks. The only

downside is its weight.
