Historical Narrative Project (Video and Essay)
Historical Narrative Project (Video and Essay)
Assignment: Identify a person or a group of people whose story you think is often missing or hidden from a bigger picture of history.
There are two parts to this assignment:
Part I
Create a video (any format, but YouTube might be easiest) that describes your understanding of that person’s or group’s experience and their place in the United States.
What about their experiences makes them what we consider an American? What is an “American”? How have they as a person or a group contributed to United States history?
For this project, you may use videos, photographs, web pages, twitter, any social media available, etc.
Below are four links to different examples of what we are looking for here. Your video must be 10-15 minutes in length and must include a narrative (story of some kind and explanation of your person or group) and at least 10 different images.
Part II
You will write a research-driven narrative in third person about this group. Try not to make this essay a summary of your video. Instead write about it from another perspective. Share things that you were unable to do so in your video.
This essay will be in MLA format, in third-person, at least 5 full pages double-spaced (a maximum of 7 pages), and you must have at least 5 popular and/or scholarly sources.
This project with both components is due in the last week of classes but it is highly recommended that you begin working on these as early as possible.
I HAVE ATTACHED AN EXAMPLE VIDEO DONE BY A STUDENT A COUPLE OF YEARS AGO. HOWEVER, THE VIDEO IS ONLY 4 MINUTES LONG YOUR NEEDS TO BE ABOUT 10-15 MINUTES LONG.
