Cultural Diversity Paper
For this assignment you will need to become knowledgeable about a non-Western culture, of which you presently have limited knowledge. You will want to research dimensions of the culture and talk with people from that culture. Your objective will be both to demonstrate your knowledge of the communication context in which these people live and will develop a communication plan that you can use when you find yourself in a relationship of the culture. This paper should be 5-6 pages, including heading and works cited, typed and double spaced with care given to sentence structure, grammar and spelling. Include your name, course name and instructor’s name at the top of your first page. Please number each page thereafter and place your name on the top right hand corner of each page. – In this paper you will discuss what you have learned about the culture from at least two personal interviews with people of that culture and at least two personal interviews with people who have experience with that culture. – You will need to research at least four (4) resources that deal with the culture and use these resources in the paper to explain the importance of both understanding culture and of having a communication plan for effectively relating with people of that culture. – You should utilize insights from your textbook, especially Chapter 4 and specifically highlight the importance of one being other oriented and of one adapting to the differences between that culture and your own culture. – You will want to describe features and norms of the culture that could influence you to effectively communicate and relate with one or more from that culture. – Describe your communication plan that you could use when you find yourself in a relationship of the culture. – Share anything special you gained from this experience and/or any decisions or goals you may set.
