Criminal Justice Questions

1. In a lawsuit, what are the three types of pleadings and what are the required elements of each type? Do you think specific rules of civil procedure are helpful, or make the legal process unnecessarily complicated?
2. Should individuals be encouraged to represent themselves (appearing “pro se”)? What do you see as the positives and negatives of jurisdictions that might encourage pro se representation?
3. It is considered legal for school officials to search children’s book bags without demonstrating “probable cause”, but police need search warrants to enter premises where they suspect there are illegal drugs being sold to children.
Do you think this is inequitable? Should we afford more protection to children in school, or less protection from police searches?
